TNT-The Northeast Today magazine was launched by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Burman (P.B.K. Manikya) in August 2007. In a short time the magazine has become the highest-selling magazine in Northeast India, with an estimated circulation of 49,000. The magazine is known for its all-round coverage and primarily covers current affairs, politics, music, sports, cuisine, lifestyle, health and travel. The magazine is currently the number one magazine from the region.
Views
The magazine states that it has no political and liberal bias and is
equidistant from all political parties. The magazine has also been seen
as very supportive for the human rights and large-scale displacement of
indigenous people for large projects. The stand for forest bill rights
is also very much evident in the magazine. The magazine also encourages
the people of Northeast to know their region first along with the
happenings of the world to which TNT- The Northeast Today aptly puts
this as “a journey within for the search of knowledge”.
Involvement
TNT has been involved in a lot of youth activities such as quizzes,
debates and seminars, largely because it has a large student and youth
base. It is estimated that almost 75% of the readers are under the age
of 35. The magazine has also organised musical concerts, namely, Eric
Martin, the Voice of Mr. Big, the huge, popular White Lion/FireHouse
show that attracted over 42,000 fans in Shillong in December 2008.The
magazine was also part of the Danish metal band, Dawn of Demise’s
concert in the year 2012. Besides, TNT was also the media-partner of
Scorpions concert in the fall of 2007 and other similar concerts in and
around the region.
Aim
The magazine aims to see the Northeast region at par with national level, not only politically but at all levels. The magazine is also one
of the youngest in terms of age with the average age of 28 years in the
editorial team. The magazine is for the people of Northeast by the
people who actually reside and live their day-to-day lives.
